Dinkel Spiralen, hell, demeter
Delicious spiral pasta with a subtle nutty spelt flavor, exceptionally stable when cooked. The finest Demeter-certified spelt is used to make these light-colored spelt spirals. At the Spielberger Mill, the grain is ground in several steps into a medium-light flour that still retains the grain’s valuable nutrients. The Type 812 flour is then handcrafted into spirals that hold their shape exceptionally well during cooking. Thanks to the spelt, these pasta have a delicate nutty flavor and are perfect for enjoying with various sauces, as well as for preparing salads, casseroles, and all other pasta dishes. Thanks to their twisted, textured surface, the pasta absorbs sauces particularly well, ensuring a truly delicious taste experience. Their beautiful shape also makes them visually appealing. The pasta packaging is made from 100% wood, a renewable resource. It can be fully collected as waste paper and is 100% recyclable. Through a long-term partnership with Bergwaldprojekt e.V., Spielberger Mühle funds the planting of trees each year, as well as the care and preservation of existing forests. This allows the forest to regenerate naturally—meaning new trees grow and the forest thrives. This closes the paper cycle by offsetting the paper used for packaging and giving something back to nature. Spelt has a delicate, nutty flavor. With the rise of the organic movement, spelt was rediscovered as an unadulterated ancient grain. Until the Middle Ages, it was considered the most important bread grain. It was only with the intensification of agriculture and the increased use of synthetic fertilizers that the grain fell into obscurity. There was a very simple reason for this: unlike wheat, spelt hardly responds to nitrogen fertilizer with an increase in yield. In organic farming, however, the grain’s positive qualities are highly valued. In addition to its delicate nutty flavor and better digestibility, spelt is distinguished by the fact that it thrives even in areas with higher rainfall and at higher elevations.
Basic recipe: Cook the spelt spirals in plenty of boiling salted water for 6-8 minutes so that the pasta is al dente. Spelt spirals are suitable for all pasta dishes. Thanks to their twisted shape and non-slip surface, they absorb sauces particularly well and are delicious with a wide variety of sauces and gravies, as well as in pasta salads and casseroles. Thanks to their handcrafted production, they are particularly stable when cooked and do not stick together.
