The barley flakes are produced with the utmost care in the Spielberg flake mill. There, the whole grain is steamed and then rolled into a beautiful flake. This preserves all the ingredients of the whole grain. With large flakes, one grain makes one flake. Barley flakes are particularly digestible and have a mild, aromatic taste. Barley originated in the Middle East and the eastern Balkans. During the Middle Ages, barley was valued in Central Europe primarily as animal feed. In organic farming, barley plays an important role because it also grows on less fertile soils and is particularly important in crop rotation.
The barley flakes can be enjoyed without cooking or soaking. Simply mix with yogurt, milk, plant-based alternatives or juice and enjoy warm or cold. Refine as desired with fresh fruit, dried fruit, nut butter, jam, honey or spices, for example. In addition to the classic use as a muesli ingredient, barley flakes also taste particularly good in desserts or in baked goods such as cookies, muesli bars or bread, as well as in savory dishes such as patties.
