FINigrana Aleppo Soap, Olive with 16% laurel oil is made using the traditional soap boiling technique from olive oil produced from the fruit of the olive tree (bot.: Olea Europea). The olive tree, originally from the Mediterranean region, is one of the oldest cultivated and useful plants. Its wood grows slowly, is strongly branched, its roots are deep and enable the tree to access sufficient water for its growth. It tolerates high temperatures but not frost. Olive leaves that are many years old are shed regardless of the season, as the olive tree is an evergreen plant. Its narrow lancet-shaped leaves are leathery green on the upper side and shiny silver on the underside. On this silvery underside of the leaf are fine, star-shaped scaly hairs, the so-called -STERNENHAARE-, which protect the foliage from drying out. Water escaping from the opening gaps is captured and returned to the leaf! A similar effect occurs when olive soap is used on human skin. The moisturizing olive oil cleanses, nourishes and cares for the skin without drying it out or irritating it. The skin's self-regulating function is stimulated and promotes its lipid replenishment. A protective layer is formed and the skin can breathe and perspire. This is why we have chosen the STAR HAIR as a symbol for the wonderful skin care properties and qualities of our FINigrana Aleppo soaps. the valuable laurel oil is obtained by boiling the dark berries of the laurel bush "Laurus Nobilis". It is a green, ointment-like mass. Laurel oil contains mainly fatty oil and a small amount of essential oil. The large number of its ingredients was already highly valued in ancient times. It has particularly skin-caring, clarifying and balancing properties, even for blemished skin. The valuable laurel oil is traditionally added to Aleppo soaps in varying proportions. It gives Aleppo soaps their unmistakable, pleasant fragrance. The higher the proportion of laurel oil in the Aleppo soap, the more intense its fragrance and the higher its value, and the following applies to all solid soaps: the soap should be stored in a dry place after each use to ensure optimum durability.

This production method spread from Syria first to Europe and later to other continents. To this day, this traditional production technique involves boiling olive oil as the main ingredient with caustic soda at around 200°C until the olive oil is completely converted into glycerine and sodium salt. Shortly before the saponification process is complete, the laurel oil is added. Once the soap has cooled, it is cut into blocks by hand and stamped with the name of the producer and the quality. For final maturing, the soap blocks are stacked into towers and dried in well-ventilated rooms for 6-9 months. This gives the Aleppo soap its ochre-colored patina on the surface, while the olive-green coloring remains on the inside of the soap - a sign of the original. The result is a highly compressed soap essence. Aleppo soap that has not been opened can be stored in a dry place for decades without losing its quality.
