Chana Dal is made from half-shelled chickpeas. These are grown in Italy. Chana dal is an integral part of Ayurvedic and Indian cuisine. It is usually prepared with ghee, various spices and seasonal vegetables and served on its own or with rice. Like chickpeas themselves, chana dal tastes mild and slightly nutty. The cultivation of protein crops such as lentils, beans or lupins contributes to a more varied crop rotation and thus to maintaining soil health. Legumes do not require nitrogen fertilizer during cultivation and thus reduce the burden on the soil. At the same time, they promote soil fertility through the accumulation of atmospheric nitrogen in their roots. They also serve as an important food source for pollinators such as bees.
